A New Source of News PDF Print E-mail

Now that the Cayman Observer has been acquired by Cayman Free Press, (publishers of the Caymanian Compass) and Cayman Net News Publisher Desmond Seales has received a substantial contract from his former nemesis, the PPM Government, to provide services (through his public relations company MCM), I am increasingly concerned that reliable sources of unbiased news are becoming nearly nonexistent in the Cayman Islands.

Therefore, I will soon expand the range of content and commentary that I post to this page.

Eventually, this site will evolve into a full-service news, feature, commentary, information, and archival database resource for the Cayman Islands. It will be updated on a "real time" basis (24/7, as it's called) and provide multimedia content as well as responsible in-depth reporting and thoughtful commentary.

While the site will be "free" for the upcoming months, eventually it will be available on a subscription-only basis. In order to maintain its independence, this site will never accept advertising or align itself with any elected government or political party.

It will be obvious to anyone who visits this site in its current condition that it is extremely "crude" in terms of its web-based layout and design. The reason for this, frankly, is that I know practically nothing about HTML "coding." Those "vanity pictures" on the right eventually will also come down. For the moment, I'm just trying to figure out how to post things to my own site!

However, I will eventually contract with a leading web-design firm to work with me to design and maintain an extensive site that, hopefully, will become the singular source of responsible reporting for an intelligent inquisitive audience in the Cayman Islands as well as for those abroad with an interest in these islands.

Above all, this site will remain conversational and personal. I want to have a dialogue with those who visit here, and I hope, over time, that readers will develop a trust in my reporting and my "insider access" to the workings (often secret) of this government and its sprawling bureaucracy.
